Aftercare

Dunvegan Nursery School Aftercare offers a specialised after school facility for Dunvegan Primary School children in Grade 1 to 7. Our Aftercare Supervisor, Teacher Claire alongside our aftercare staff ensure that all our children’s after school needs are met.

Children are collected from Dunvegan Primary by our teachers when their school day is completed. Collection after extra mural activities is also available. On arrival at our school, children are divided into their respective age groups and are afforded the opportunity to change into “comfy clothes” before beginning their homework.

Homework is completed timeously and conscientiously through the supervision of experienced teachers. Written homework is completed in a group setting, however, children’s different abilities are accommodated for and additional, individual attention is given as needed. Language, poetry and oral work practice, Mathematics and study skills are all accommodated. Reading is done on a one-on-one basis with a trained member of staff. Our school computer centre also allows for children to do supervised research for school projects.

Post homework, to sustain energy levels, our children receive an afternoon snack consisting of sandwiches, baked goods or fruit and juice. Thereafter creative art, fine motor and physical activities are the order of the day during free play time. This allows the children the opportunity to blow off steam and cement friendships through teacher-guided games and activities. The children are supervised at all times and are free to move between activities at will. Typically, groups of friends form and this highly valued part of the afternoon is spent in social play.
